Page 1 of the March 2009 issue reports the results of Statistics Canada on the Canadian breeding herd – it falls again. Polish pig farming is decimated according to the charts and table on page 2. Global pig prices mark time on page 3 but we predict that the “compass needle is swinging round” for prices. The BPEX/Interpig review of costs and productivity from 2007 data provide an insight into competitiveness on page 4. On page 5 EU pig prices stabilise. Page 6 describes rising Canadian pork exports. The USA's pork exports are also seen to maintain their increases on page 7. Page 9 presents data for the Japanese market for pork – imports rise over 2008. In contrast, South Korea’s imports decline.
