The first page of the July 2017 issue presents a review of the EU’s latest short term outlook for agriculture in 2017/18. Charts from the latest pig management committee are presented on page 2 and describe the changes in pig kill numbers and pigmeat production YTD April 2017. The global pig price cycle is discussed on page 3 and suggests caution as prices weaken. EU pig price data for June 2017 and export trade data for the first five months of 2017 are examined on page 4 with the changes in prices and exports described there. Page 5 presents the export numbers for Canada – they have continued to recover. On page 6 the USA’s exports are at record highs but sales to China have collapsed in May. On page 7 the trade data for Australian pigmeat are presented and imports and exports are growing strongly.  Page 8 reports on the Japanese imported pork market which still shows a positive trend.  Page 9 reports on the South Korean market in 2017 – it grows and grows and especially for German exporters. Page 10 deals with the Chinese market with charts and tables showing how prices and imports are behaving – and reports a Reuters’ article on vegetarian trends in China. Page 11 presents short news items on Rabobank’s changing forecast for the Chinese market, Danish Crown’s views of the newly agreed EU-Japan FTA, the German pig census numbers, Cranswick’s Q1 2017 results, and moves to improve the scope of an EU-Mexico FTA.
